The meetings of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, with members of the Romanian community from the West Coast of the U.S. and Romanian entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Strategic Partnership
The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, paid a visit to San Francisco (California) between September 22-23, 2022, during which he had meetings with members of the Romanian community from the West Coast of the United States and with Romanian entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley. The visit was part of the program celebrating 25 years since the launch of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the United States, in 1997 in Bucharest.
Over 300 people participated in the meeting: entrepreneurs, teachers, doctors, researchers, students, priests, pastors, as well as the general and honorary consuls of Romania in the USA, who were able to interact with the President of Romania.
On this occasion, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, presented the tense situation caused by the war of Russia against Ukraine and the aid given by our country to Ukraine, inclusive by receiving almost 2.5 million Ukrainian refugees since the beginning of the conflict and facilitating the export of grain from the neighboring country, which prevented a food crisis. “60% of Ukrainian grains were exported through Romania and we are still making efforts to increase this intake”, stated the President of Romania.
Also, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, mentioned that this year, Romania marks 25 years since the launch of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the USA, showing that the partnership with the United States and our country’s NATO membership represent the strongest security guarantees that Romania has ever benefited from.
At the same time, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, also presented the development of the economic level of the Strategic Partnership, including in the civil area of nuclear energy use, through the development in Romania of the technology of small modular reactors. During the meeting with Romanian entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, wanted to find out how Romania can improve the situation in the business, research and university areas, including using the knowledge acquired by them.
